WRAP is an evidence-based approach

WRAP has been evaluated using various methodologies, such as focus groups and individual face-to-face interviews. While results were positive, it should be noted that study participants self-selected themselves and may have had an vested interest in the program, thus potentially altering quantitative results.

One of the key findings from this evaluation was that most participants saw WRAP as an invaluable way to improve their mental health, become more self-reliant, and manage their lives better. Some even felt as though it had become part of their everyday thought processes regarding recovery.

Lee and Dennis are certified WRAP Facilitators working at Step By Step, a non-profit that offers buccal training for epilepsy on this program to people of all abilities and disabilities. Together, they strive to spread the message that personal wellness and growth know no bounds.

WRAP is a self-help tool

WRAP is an evidence-based practice designed to reduce stress, build confidence and enable open communications with care providers. Participants in group settings are encouraged to utilize this self-directed tool.

One small pilot study involving one-group pre-post randomized evaluation of WRAP demonstrated its significant effectiveness by significantly improving self-management abilities and perceptions of recovery for participants, in part through interaction with credible role models and creation of daily plans for mental wellness. Furthermore, it helped participants recognize specific triggers that cause negative thoughts and emotions as well as their ability to recognize and avoid them.

The wrap training course is delivered to groups of 8-12 participants over 10 weekly 2.5-hour sessions led by two trained Facilitators. Many participants found completing WRAP in groups more supportive; it allowed them to openly explore personal challenges while learning from each other's experiences.

WRAP is a structured process

A structured process such as WRAP provides individuals with an effective method for managing mental health issues. Studies have demonstrated its benefits to quality of life and hopefulness; communicating needs to others without feeling judged; and finding effective strategies for dealing with their illness.

Participants of WRAP groups reported improved hopefulness and self-image following attending training, which is consistent with previous studies which indicate its efficacy as an intervention for improving mental health. Further investigation will need to be completed on comparing its efficacy against other modalities.


Seminar 1 is the cornerstone of WRAP workshops, an 18-hour in-person course designed to introduce five key recovery concepts and guide participants in creating their own Recovery Action and Recovery Planning Agreement (WRAP) Plan. It usually spans over three full days. After finishing Seminar 1, participants can meet with their instructor to review and refine their WRAP plans further. WRAP is a community

WRAP helps individuals identify and create tools to achieve wellness for themselves, along with plans to manage challenges and reach goals. It has proven its efficacy by helping reduce or eliminate unhelpful behaviors and improving quality of life; additionally it can assist people coping with mental health crises by developing plans. At The Copeland Center for Wellness and Recovery we offer care mandatory training and certification in WRAP; one such seminar being "Wellness Recovery Action Plan: Seminar I", an intensive two-day course designed for anyone wishing to explore its depths further.

Research demonstrates the power of group therapy as an integral element of WRAP. Studies indicate it can assist individuals in overcoming stigma and reclaiming control over their lives, making participants feel more at ease with sharing experiences in group. Furthermore, mutual support provides great source of inspiration and encouragement to others, especially during difficult situations such as suicide attempts or serious mental illnesses.
